The Majority and Minority Caucus were engaged in a violent scuffle following a heated argument over the vetting of Minister of Foreign Affairs-designate, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa and Kwabena Mintah Akandoh on Thursday, January 30, 2025.
While Okudzeto and Akandoh awaited their turn to be vetted, the minority group hinted of ending the day’s vetting at Minister for Transport-designate, Joseph Nikpe.
The majority however insisted on the vetting of the duo to proceed, which the minority vehemently opposed.
The peaceful committee turn into a screaming contest with minority members saying “it is not happening” while some majority members said, “if you’re tired go”.
The confusion turned physical as MPs of both divide kept heckling each other while the media looked on, and the police intervention failed.
In the midst of the violence, the tables and microphones of the committee were broken. The room where the vetting was taking place was left disorganized and in a destroyed fashion.
The minority post the destruction claimed the vetting scheduled had only five (5) nominees for the vetting but the majority connived with the clerk of parliament to add more people without informing them
