Ghanaian broadcaster, Bridget Otoo, has descended heavily on some victims of the Kantamanto fire outbreak, accusing the National Democratic Congress (NDC) of being responsible for the disaster.
At least 1,545 shops have been destroyed after a fire erupted in the Kantamanto market area during the early hours of January 2, 2025.
According to the source, the fire peaked around 1:00 AM to 1:20AM, and ravaged everything within a two-mile radius. “Around 1:20 AM, I received a call that the market was on fire. When I arrived, the place was in flames, and many stores had collapsed into ashes. The fire consumed shops along the roadside and deep into the market.”
The cause of the fire has not yet been identified.
After the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) managed to control the fire, some victims of the fire have come forward, pointing fingers at the National Democratic Congress (NDC), alleging that the party was responsible for the arson attack.
Per the accounts of one of the victims, the NDC had been eyeing the land on which the market is situated, and had threatened to take it over if they came into power.
The victim claimed that the NDC saw the market as a stronghold of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and wanted to dismantle it. “Here is an NPP stronghold, and they want to find a way to take it from us. That’s why they intentionally did this to us.”
Reacting to the video of victims making these claims, Bridget Otoo did not hold back, describing the mentality and posture as a “stupid” one.
She expressed shock of their refusal to hold the sitting Akufo-Addo led government for their misfortune ”but blaming an incoming one!”

With this stupid mentality, how can they find the culprits, who could be standing among them…
This is how they lose any sympathy whatsoever… even in their grief they refuse to hold the government they have been voting for responsible but blame an incoming one! https://t.co/q86rcLQCG6— John Mahama’s PA (@Bridget_Otoo) January 2, 2025
