British rapper Stormzy, has been handed a nine-month driving ban for using his mobile phone while driving his Rolls-Royce.
The 31-year music star faced criticism from District Judge Andrew Sweet, who described his actions as “dangerous and irresponsible” during a hearing at a London Magistrates’ Court.
Stormzy, who did not attend in person, pleaded guilty in writing to the offence, which occurred in March 2024.
In addition to the ban, the former Glastonbury headliner was fined £2,010 (€2,422) and received penalty points on his license.
This incident follows a previous driving violation in 2023, where Stormzy was found guilty of driving a Lamborghini Urus with illegally tinted windows.
According to prosecutor Alice Holloway, the windows permitted just 4% light transmission, far below the legal minimum of 70%, putting “vulnerable road users at risk.”
Defense lawyer Peter Csemiczky stated that Stormzy had apologized and taken responsibility for his actions.
Driving bans are common in England for traffic offenses and can be either discretionary or mandatory, particularly for using a phone while driving, depending on the circumstances of the offense.
Stormzy, whose real name is Michael Ebenazer Owuo Jr., is not the only British musician to receive a driving ban.
In November of last year, Gareth Gates, the 2002 Pop Idol runner-up, was banned from driving for six months after being caught speeding for the fourth time in three years.
