Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, will hold a close door meeting with Acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Petroleum Commission, Victoria Emeafa Hardcastle, today January 30, 2025.
The meeting follows a clash between Ms. Hardcastle and the Minority Chief Whip, Frank Annoh-Dompreh, during a sitting of the Appointments Committee on Tuesday, January 28.
The altercation, has sparked widespread debate within political and legislative circles, and happened during the vetting of Dr. Omane Boamah as Defense Minister-Designate.
An exchange of words between Ms. Hardcastle and Annoh-Dompreh resulted in the latter expressing concern to Speaker Bagbin over what he perceives as an attack on his reputation as a legislator.
In the aftermath of the heated encounter, Annoh-Dompreh formally petitioned the Speaker of Parliament, urging him to take action by issuing directives ahead of the establishment of the Privileges Committee.
In response to the concerns raised, Speaker Bagbin acknowledged the seriousness of the situation and assured the House that he would engage with the Acting CEO of the Petroleum Commission before the formal establishment of the Privileges Committee.
The meeting will provide an opportunity for the Speaker to hear Ms. Hardcastle’s side of the story and assess the circumstances surrounding the incident.
