Jamaican Musician, Vybz Kartel has re-echoed the status of Shatta Wale as the “King of African dancehall” music.
Vybz Kartel made this proclamation after Shatta Wale’s performance at his Freedom Street Concert in Jamaica.
Shatta Wale performed a number of his songs and thrilled Jamaicans to back to back performances of his hit tunes.
After his performance, Vybz Kartel said to the teeming crowd, “People believe me the culture is big. The culture we have is so big and loved by people all over the world. It is amazing. Shatta Wale is the king of African Dancehall.”
He expressed delight in the fact that great dancehall musicians, including Shatta Wale get their inspiration from Jamaica.
Vybz Kartel served more than a decade of a murder sentence before his conviction was overturned.
Despite imprisonment and a radio ban, his influence grew as he designed a makeshift studio in prison to record and release songs for his fans.
After his release from prison, Vybz Kartel chose to make a statement of his return with a concert, the Freedom Street Concert which was well attended by his fans who got their monies worth.
