Security forces deployed to Nkwanta following chieftaincy clashes

Security forces, comprising police and military personnel, have been dispatched to Nkwanta to restore peace following renewed violence linked to a chieftaincy dispute.

The clashes, which broke out on January 16, 2025, in the Tuobodom community, resulted in a 43-year-old woman sustaining gunshot injuries. She is currently receiving medical care at St. Joseph Catholic Hospital.

The violence also led to the burning of two houses, displacing multiple families and causing widespread fear within the community.

In an update on Facebook, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Acting Spokesperson to the President and Member of Parliament for Abura Asebu Kwamankese confirmed the reinforcement of security in the area.

“On the Nkwanta clashes, believed to stem from a Chieftaincy dispute, a combined team of Police and Military personnel were quickly deployed to restore calm.
Additional troops being sent today to enforce law and order”, he wrote.

The incident has raised concerns over escalating tensions in the Nkwanta South District, with authorities urging residents to remain calm as security operations continue.
