Cristiano Ronaldo has received a strong response from Manchester City midfielder, and reigning Ballon D’Or winner, after the former said the latter was not deserving of the 2024 Ballon D’Or.
Cristiano Ronaldo speaking at Globe Soccer Awards in Dubai argued Real Madrid’s Vinicius Jnr was far more deserving of the award than Rodri.
According to him, the Real Madrid winger had enjoyed a better season as compared to Rodri, hence the Manchester City player’s win was unfair.
Rodri while reacting called out Ronaldo’s bias saying the same voting academy he is criticizing today because his favorite Vinicius didn’t win is made up of the same people who voted for him to win the award five times.
“Ronaldo saying Vinícius deserved the Ballon d’Or? Well, it was a surprise because he knows better than anyone how this award works and how the winner is chosen.”
“This year, the journalists who vote decided that I should win it. Probably, these same journalists were the ones who, at some point, voted for him to win it.”
“I imagine that back then, he would have agreed,” he added.
Although some may share the same assertion with Ronaldo, it is believed his ties to Real Madrid – as the club’s all-time leading goal scorer – and City’s arch-rivals at Manchester United could explain why he has sided with Vinicius in the ongoing Ballon d’Or debate.
