Sam Nartey George, the Minister-Designate for Communications, Digital Technology, and Innovation has revealed that Ghanaians hope to see a reduction in data prices by the end of the year.
According to Sam George on the instruction of President Mahama, they have started discussions with stakeholders to ensure that Ghanaians get, more value from their data.
He asserted that more value could be a reduction in prices or an increase in data with the same price.
Speaking during his vetting by Parliament’s Appointments Committee, Sam George stated, “I hold the view respectfully that we could get more value for what we pay, as a country for data, I have already begun the conversation on the instruction of his Excellency the President with stakeholders to ensure that we get, more value”.
“More value could be a reduction in prices or an increase in offerings so it could be if you pay for example 100 Ghana cedis and you get 100GB data, we could maintain the same 100 cedis but give you 150GB of data so that is more value, or the 100 cedis could drop to 75 cedis there are different model around it”, he added.
Sam George further added, “We are working around what goes into the cost element largely electricity and some work has begun on that yes we hope to see prices of data hopefully drop before the end of this year”.
