The Teachers and Educational Workers Union (TEWU) of the Trades Union Congress (TUC) has charged government to focus on participatory governance.
The Union argues it should become a norm for government to involve labour unions in the decision making process of major socio economic policy reforms like the review of the Free Senior High School programme and the IMF programme.
“TEWU of TUC(Ghana), will like to urge the new government not to see labour as an afterthought, when taking major socio-economic policy decisions, like any review of the Free Senior High School Programme, the 1992 Constitution, Ghana-IMF agreements, among others.”
The statement added, “Labour’s input must be sought and seriously factored into any such future reviews, because the cumulative negative effect is borne by Ghanaian workers both in the formal and informal sectors”.
The Union argued that the voices of labour unions are critical in national building, and charged the President Mahama administration to be an inclusive and participatory one.
“Let us remember that, every voice in our country matters, and every effort we make together must be one that strengthens and accelerates national progress”.
“TEWU of TUC(Ghana), expects both labour and government to embrace the promise of a New Year filled with potential for growth and hope for a future, where fairness prevails”, the statement added.
