Dr. Eric Nkansah the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES) has been fired by President John Dramani Mahama.
He was appointed as GES Director on October 18, 2022, by former president Akufo-Addo after strong rejections from some teacher unions across the country.
According to the teacher unions, such a sensitive position must be occupied by a professional educationist who understands the field.
Dr Nkansah brought a complicated career background to his role as the GES Director, working as a subject teacher between 2000 and 2006, as a sales manager with Barclays Bank (now Absa), and also as a part-time lecturer at the Business School of Garden City University College, Kumasi.
Meanwhile, the John Mahama administration has appointed Prof. Ernest Kofi Davis, Provost of UCC’s College of Education, as the new Director-General of GES.
