Majority Leader in Parliament, Afenyo-Markin, delivered a strong statement in response to the opposition’s critique following President Akufo-Addo’s final State of the Nation Address.
Reflecting on the government’s achievements, Afenyo-Markin emphasized that “posterity will be the utmost judge,” warning that soon, the true colors of the opposition’s leadership the NDC would be revealed.
He highlighted the government’s resilience during global challenges, particularly citing the management of the COVID-19 pandemic, which ensured government workers were paid, and the continuity of essential services like electricity.
Afenyo-Markin also praised the Free SHS initiative, recalling how it helped many Ghanaians, including himself, who struggled with the cost of secondary education.
Touching on technical education, he mentioned the government’s introduction of TVET (Technical and Vocational Education and Training) programs, which provided opportunities for those at the lower end of the socioeconomic ladder.
“It took the grace of God and I know there were manyGhanaians who could not afford free shs.
And because couldnot afford secondary education and had to stay at home.
We know in our communities today, all those who could not getget free shs benefited from it.”
