Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has revealed that parliament is not aware of the Secretary to the President appointment.
President John Dramani Mahama on January 6, 2025, appointed, Dr. Callistus Mahama as his Secretary.
On January 13, 2025, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, appeared before the vetting Committee as he prepared to assume his role as Finance Minister.
The Minority leader took the opportunity to emphasize the lack of official notice to Parliament about the appointment.
Afenyo Markin speaking at the ministerial vetting stated, “Hon. Ato Forson will describe it as a Banana republic, we are not a Banana republic, Secretary to the President, parliament is not even aware of your appointment because under normal circumstances the president is supposed to communicate to parliament”.
“It is part of the imperatives of governance that he communicates to parliament, so that is issue one”, he added.
The minority leader further reiterated the significance of completing the formation of the President’s cabinet to ensure the smooth operation of government, urging President Mahama to prioritize the vetting process.
