Former Deputy Health Minister and MP for Akim Oda, Alexander Akwasi Acquah, has claimed that the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) historic loss in the 2024 election was spiritually orchestrated.

In an interview, he stated that the party’s defeat transcended political dynamics.

According to him, months before the election, he was informed by someone he believes was divinely guided that the NPP was likely to face a significant defeat.

“Few months ago, if someone predicted a defeat for the party, probably many wouldn’t have believed it. For me, someone told me about it.

I informed some leaders of the party there were some spiritual directions we had to do but they ignored it,” he stated.

According to him, the individual further prophesied that the party might not even secure 90 seats in Parliament, an outcome that seemed unbelievable at that time.

Acquah recalled, “The person told me emphatically that the party might not even get 90 seats in Parliament.

It was hard for me to believe, but because I knew he was acting on the promptings from the Holy Spirit, I informed some leaders of the party.”

He emphasised that in politics, there is often more focus on the physical and tactical aspects of campaigning, while spiritual considerations are overlooked. “Sometimes in politics, we turn to focus more on the physical than the spiritual.

Becoming a president of a country has spiritual implications. People do all sorts of things in the realm of the spirit to clinch victory,” he added.

The Member of Parliament of Akim Oda questioned why millions of NPP supporters, who have consistently turned out to vote, chose not to participate in the 2024 election.

“Did all NPP members have a nationwide meeting that they won’t vote? There are some die-hard supporters of the party who will always make it a point to vote during elections. Over 2 million NPP supporters did not vote, and it is quite intriguing,” he noted.

The NPP faced a historic defeat in the 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections, losing to the NDC.

The President, John Dramani Mahama, secured a decisive victory with 6,328,397 votes, representing 56.55 percent of the total votes, while the 2024 Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia garnered 4,657,304 votes, representing 41.61 percent of the votes.

Immediate past deputy health minister Alexander Akwasi Acquah has stated that the NPP’s defeat in the 2024 elections was primarily spiritual, particularly regarding the significant voter turnout among NPP members.
