The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has decided to placed an embargo on all media platforms owned by Media General, asking their communicators not to appear on or speak on their shows.
The directive was issued by the party’s Director of Communications, Richard Ahiagbah.
According to the NPP, this decision comes after months of engagement with the production team, hosts, and management of Media General to address concerns regarding unprofessional, biased, and abusive moderation by its hosts.
Portions of the release issued by the NPP reads, “Despite repeated assurances since 2023, the observed misconduct and unfairness persist. Though withdrawal is not our preferred resort, we have been forced by the stance of the management of the media house to proceed in this direction,” the NPP press statement read.
Their concerns which received no action from Media General has led to this drastic but unpreferred action.
The release mentioned instances of biased and abusive moderation from hosts.
“For instance, a regular guest known for making inflammatory remarks recently directed another insult towards former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on a programme hosted by Madam Keminni Amanor.
“Strangely, the host did not act to correct or object to this misconduct but merely laughed it off. The said remarks about the former president were unnecessary and in poor taste by any stretch of the imagination, yet the host condoned it,” Richard Ahiagbah stated in the release.
“We are left confused about Media General’s endgame. Also, the TV3 political shows are characterized by biased paneling, where they assemble three(3) or four(4) persons whose political affiliation and orientation are publicly known to favor one party against a single representative from the NPP.”
