The National Democratic Congress (NDC) youth in the Atwima Kwanwoma district of the Ashanti Region have retrieved several items suspected to have been misappropriated by a female district executive.
The recovered items include a motorbike, fridge, street bulbs, a fufu pounding machine, machetes, fertilizers, agrochemicals, and other resources intended for farmers in the district.
This incident comes barely months after a similar operation, led by NDC’s Joseph Yammin under the “Operation Recover All Looted Assets” campaign, intercepted fertilizers allegedly hoarded by Adansi North District Chief Executive (DCE) Eric Kwaku Kusi in Fomena.
Through an intelligence operation, NDC operatives uncovered fertilizers stored at the DCE’s residence.
These were reportedly meant for farmers under a government program but were withheld for campaign purposes during the 2024 elections.
Speaking to journalists, the Adansi North DCE claimed that the fertilizers were brought to his home for safekeeping by the Member of Parliament for Fomena Constituency and Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Andrew Asiamah. The MP allegedly instructed him to keep the fertilizers after the elections for later distribution.
Eric Kwaku Kusi explained, “My MP told me the fertilizers were for his campaign activities but arrived late. He said I should keep them, and he would collect them for distribution later.”
However, NDC Ashanti Regional Youth Organizer Osman Nabali described the hoarding as a deliberate act to deprive farmers of much-needed resources.
He stated, “This is part of a broader scheme by individuals in the outgoing administration to sabotage the incoming government and profit at the expense of farmers.”
Nabali also revealed that the same intelligence led to the recovery of over 10,000 bags of fertilizers hidden in buildings at Sokoban and Danyame residential areas.
He criticized the alleged scheme as an attempt to sell government-subsidized resources at exorbitant prices while denying farmers essential agricultural inputs.
The Second Deputy Speaker, Andrew Asiamah, confirmed in an interview that the fertilizers belonged to him but declined to provide further details.
