Supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Ashanti Region today stormed the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, forcibly evicted employees from their offices, and locked the premises.

This incident follows a similar attempt just 12 hours earlier by alleged NDC supporters to take over the offices of the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) in Tema, claiming their party’s electoral victory gave them the right to control government institutions.

The Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the NDC, Emmanuel Nii Ashie Moore, has strongly condemned such actions. Speaking on the matter yesterday, he dismissed the claims linking NDC members to the Tema Harbour incident and called on party supporters to report any suspicious or unlawful activities to the appropriate authorities.

“There are claims that our members were at Tema Harbour and other government institutions, including warehouses. Let me use this opportunity to encourage our members to remain vigilant and report any unlawful activities to me as the regional chairman or to the regional police commander for the appropriate actions to be taken,” he said.

Ashie Moore further urged NDC supporters to avoid behaviors that could tarnish the party’s reputation. “Rather than being accused of engaging in the very things we complain about, we must let law and order prevail,” he emphasized. He also disclosed that he had met with the regional police commander, who assured him of swift action to restore order within 24 hours.

Meanwhile, President John Dramani Mahama has issued a caution to party members, urging them to refrain from repeating the actions of New Patriotic Party (NPP) supporters in 2017 following their victory. Addressing supporters at a presidential dinner held at the Accra International Conference Centre, President Mahama reminded them of the need to uphold law and order.

“I know that in 2017, the NPP, after losing the election, indulged in attacking government offices, seizing properties, taking over public toilets, toll booths, and even confiscating vehicles on the streets. We must not repeat such behavior,” he warned.
