The minority in parliament has claimed the National Democratic Congress government plans to scrap the E-Levy and bet tax to introduce more draconian taxes.
According to the minority, they would like to know the minister-designate plans to make way for the revenue shortfalls that will arrive as a result of the tax cuts.
Addressing a press conference Gideon Boako stated, “We would like to know how the minister designated plans to make way for the revenue shortfalls that will arrive as a result of the tax cuts.
“The minister’s quick response was to cut expenditures, while we believe expenditure cut could be a possible way to match revenue with expenses in order not to run in fiscal deficits. It is not the ultimate solution to address revenue shortfalls”, he added.
Gideon Boako further stated that Ato Forson failed to clarify the aspect of government expenditure he intends to cut.
He added, “The minister-designate fell short in providing clarity on which aspect of government expenditure he intends to cut, whether is it salaries, interest payments or capital expenditure”.
“The minister-designate unconvincing responses regarding how he intends to make up for the revenue shortfalls leave as with no choice but to tempt that he would scrap these taxes but introduce new ones perhaps more draconian than those he would scrap, he cannot give with his right hand and take back with his left hand”, the minority claimed.
