Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah the Lands and Natural Resources Minister-designate has detailed, that the National Democratic Congress is bringing three great initiatives to fight galamsey.
He revealed the NDC intends to bring a blue water initiative, tree for Life and restore Ghana to deal with the issue of galamsey-impacted lands and water bodies.
Speaking at his vetting by the Appointments Committee on Monday, Mr Armah-Kofi Buah stated, “This is what the NDC intends to do. We are bringing three great initiatives. The blue water initiative which seeks to heal and harness the environment by turning areas degraded by illegal mining into hubs of economic and ecological recovery”.
“We are also going to do a tree for life initiative, re-afforestation will be intensified. We are also going to encourage afforestation across the country”, he added.
The Lands Minister-designate further added, “We are going to really push for another policy of restoring Ghana to deal with the issue of galamsey impacted lands and water bodies through a comprehensive land and water base rehabilitation,”
“We are going to make sure LI.2462 is no more so that we can stop any further mining in forest reserve”, he revealed.
Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah further indicated that reputable companies are not to blame for the destruction of the forest reserves.
He added, “Let me say that these very reputable companies who have been mining in our forest reserves are not the reason why our forest is bleeding today.
“The reason why our forest is being degraded and destroyed is because we have allowed political apparatchiks to take over our forest and destroy it”, the Lands Minister-designate indicated.
Meanwhile, the Lands Minister-designate added that the Akufo-Addo government started their fight against galamsey well but ended after 8 years in failure.
