The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary candidate for Ablekuma North, Ewurabena Aubynn, has condemned her competitor, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Parliamentary candidate, Nana Akua Afriyie, over what she describes as Afriyie’s “strong sense of entitlement.
” Aubynn’s remarks follow Nana Akua Afriyie’s persistent assertions of victory in the constituency’s parliamentary elections, which are now being recollated for the sixth time.
Speaking at the collation center in Accra on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, Afriyie expressed her unwavering commitment to the process, insisting the truth would prevail.
“We have 281 polling stations in Ablekuma North. It was left with 62, and by the grace of God, truth will stand.
I appreciate the justice system that allowed for this collation, and I am firm. I will fight till the end because I know I won,” she declared.
Afriyie emphasized her preparedness, stating, “I have all my 281 pink sheets scanned.
I did it immediately before the gentleman who came and tore everything from the EC. Gradually, we are left with three polling stations. By the grace of God, I am leading comfortably, and that is the fear.”
However, Ewurabena Aubynn dismissed Afriyie’s claims in an interview with Joy News, describing her as overly aggressive and entitled.
“That woman, for want of a better word, I don’t want to call her a con woman. We live in the constituency; she has been with us for years, so we know her games and how she doesn’t accept defeat quite easily.
She feels that sense of entitlement. If you followed our campaign, you would realize how aggressive she was, even with the placement of signboards in the constituency.
So she is used to misbehaving. I wouldn’t take her commentary seriously,” Aubynn stated.
Aubynn expressed confidence in her victory, claiming the election results reflected the will of the people.
“She lost the election. She has been an MP before; she was in Parliament. People have experienced her, and they don’t want her. They need a change. It has been the NPP for 28 years.
We need development. And so, this time around, the majority of the electorate in Ablekuma North voted for change, and they voted massively for Mahama and Ewurabena Aubynn,” she asserted.
She further criticized Afriyie’s actions, alleging that her opponent had resorted to desperate measures.
“If she claims she won the election, why did she go around the constituency taking back gifts and goodies given to entice people? At what point did she realize she had won with some 400 votes when she didn’t even have pink sheets?” Aubynn questioned.
Meanwhile, the Returning Officer for the Ablekuma North Constituency, Vincent Obeng, has announced his decision to discontinue the collation of results in the area.
Citing frustrations during the process, he informed the Electoral Commission (EC) to appoint a replacement.
Obeng revealed that, out of seven polling stations, results from four had already been collated, leaving just three remaining.
Tensions escalated during the collation process when an NPP official reportedly slammed the table of EC officials in protest, sparking chaos among party supporters and leading to a brief physical altercation.
