The Minority in Parliament has called on all individuals invited by the Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) committee to refuse participation in its investigations into corruption-related matters.
They argue that the committee lacks the legal authority to probe such cases, emphasizing that constitutionally mandated institutions are already responsible for handling corruption investigations.
Addressing the press in Parliament on January 15, 2025, Suame MP, John Darko, stated that NPP Members of Parliament will not comply with invitations from the ORAL committee. He asserted that the committee’s actions involve harassing individuals, entering private homes, seizing vehicles, and reclaiming lands from people who lawfully acquired them.
“Our advice to you from the Minority is to boycott any invitation from the ORAL team. We are not going to be part of it because we believe that there are constitutionally established bodies that investigates any so-called misdeeds for the government,” John Darko declared.
“What they (ORAL) are doing is to go about disturbing people, entering homes, seizing vehicles and more or less taking over lands from people who have genuinely purchased them,” he stated.
He maintained that former government officials obtained their properties legally, without any wrongdoing. He accused members of the current administration of also acquiring state properties in the past, highlighting areas like Cantonments, Airport, and Tse-Addo where some officials, including Okudzeto Ablakwa, reside on lands previously owned by the government. He described the ORAL committee’s efforts as politically motivated, targeting former government officials under the guise of corruption investigations.
“In any case, the NDC, their members have also acquired lands in this country. The Executive, Okudzeto Ablakwa and co, they live in the Cantonments, they live in the Airports, they live in the Tse-Addos, lands which were government lands, which they bought many years ago. The people of Ghana should not tolerate this ORAL which is out there to only persecute the former government officials,” he alleged.\
