The minority caucus in parliament has request the House to use Emeafa Hardcastle as an example to send an “unequivocal message that any attempt to undermine its authority or dignity will face severe consequences.”
The minority described Emeafa Hardcastle’s conduct as an intolerable breach of parliamentary privilege and contempt of the House.
According to the statement signed by Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin public officials must be made to understand that every and all interactions with Parliament and its members demands the highest form of respect.
The minority caucus also added that appropriate sanctions under the Standing Orders of parliament including fines, imprisonment, restriction from parliamentary proceedings, and mandatory public apology “will be applied with appropriate severity to reflect the gravity of this offence.”
The statement insisted that anyone who chooses to assault the “non-negotiable dignity” of parliament must face commensurate consequences.”
A full blown out confrontation between Frank Annoh-Dompreh and Emeafa Hardcastle rocked parliament on January 28, 2025.
The altercation resulted in Annoh-Dompreh being described as a silly child by, Emeafa Hardcastle.
Annoh-Dompreh who was not pleased by her actions has requested the Speaker of Parliament to haul her before the Privileges Committee to answer for her actions.
Following this demand from Annoh-Dompreh, Education Minister, Haruna Iddrisu (MP) has asked his (Annoh-Dompreh) to reconsider his decision, while asking Emeafa to offer a public apology and retraction of her statements.
Other notable members of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) have also called on her to apologize, while asking Annoh-Dompreh not to drag her before the Privileges Committee.
