The Minority in Parliament has accused President John Mahama of violating the Presidential Office Act.
According to the minority, President Mahama must be mandated to act in consultation with the Council of State before making appointments to the presidency.
They argue that President Mahama’s appointments to the presidency were made despite the Council of State not being constituted.
Speaking to the media the minority led by Patrick Boamah stated, “Section 4(1) states that the president shall appoint such officers in consultation with the Council of State, we as a minority believe that the president has acted in breach of this act or the provision of Act 463”.
“We are requesting that the president kindly withdraw this letter, and act in consultation with the Council of State which is not in place”, he added.
The minority further noted that the letter issued could have stated the appointments were being made pending the composition of the Council of State.
“At best this letter could have been issued with a paragraph to state that these appointments are being made pending the composition of the Council of State and that they will be regularised in conformity with this act”, the minority added.
Meanwhile, President John Dramani Mahama has nominated a total of 42 sector and regional ministers so far and has made some appointments to the office of the presidency.
