Charles Asiedu, the newly elected Member of Parliament for Tano South and son of NDC National Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, has taken a swipe at the NPP’s parliamentary caucus, referring to them as the “micro-minority.”
Speaking on Tv XYZ during an interview Asiedu suggested that the NPP, now reduced to 88 seats in the 9th Parliament, might as well “stay at home and be given money for data to watch parliamentary proceedings online.”
The term “micro-minority” has become a popular descriptor within the NDC, stemming from the NPP’s diminished representation following the December 7, 2024, general elections.
With the NDC holding a commanding 183 seats, the NPP’s minority status has been magnified under the leadership of Alexander Fenyo-Markin, the party’s minority leader.
Charles Asiedu, who unseated NPP incumbent Benjamin Yeboah Sekyere with 20,056 votes to Sekyere’s 19,061, credited his victory to both his own efforts and his father’s influence.
“My father was not surprised because he knew my capabilities when I won the election.
He was really excited that his son was going to be a member of the 9th Parliament,” Asiedu stated.
He emphasized that while his father’s legacy played a role in his campaign, he worked tirelessly to connect with constituents and secure their votes.
The 2024 elections delivered a significant blow to the NPP, reducing their parliamentary representation to a historic low.
This outcome has led to internal debates within the party and calls for stronger leadership to rebuild its base.
Haha 😂Like a father like a son. Micro-Minority Nketenkete should stay at home and be given money for data to watch parliamentary proceedings online — Chairman General Asiedu Nketiah’s son Charles Asiedu, NDC MP for Tano South. pic.twitter.com/VQ097Ct7mJ
