The Member of Parliament for Tamale South, Haruna Iddrisu, has expressed confidence in President-elect John Dramani Mahama’s ability to steer Ghana in the right direction, emphasizing the importance of humility and compassion in governance.
Speaking to the media on the floor of Parliament, Iddrisu described Mahama’s return to power as an opportunity to reset Ghana on a path of sustainable development and good governance.
“This is an opportunity to reset Ghana with John Mahama’s experienced hand on the chair, supported by the Ghanaian people and the benevolence of a comfortable majority,” he said.
Highlighting Ghana’s current challenges, Iddrisu pointed to a fragile economy in the context of a strong and resilient democracy.
However, he noted that Ghanaians are increasingly demanding the dividends of democracy.
“What is it that government is doing and will do for us? President Mahama will necessarily find answers to those questions to reset Ghana in his governance,” he stated.
Iddrisu outlined key areas for reform, including economic management and borrowing practices.
“We need to reset Ghana in the management of our economy, reset Ghana in the way we borrow, and do away with excessive borrowing,” he emphasized.
“President Mahama’s best lesson is to avoid the wrongs and ills of the NPP and govern with humility and compassion.
The Ghanaian people deserve leadership that is both effective and empathetic,” he remarked.
