The minority leader in parliament Alexander Afenyo Markin has quizzed President John Dramani Mahama on his ministerial appointments.
Afenyo Markin has quizzed John Mahama if he is marching women for deputy ministerial appointments.
He revealed there is a gender imbalance in President John Mahama’s ministerial appointments.
According to him, there are over 30 women members of parliament on the majority side of parliament but only a handful have been appointed as substantive ministerial nominees.
Speaking on the floor of parliament he stated, “We are also disappointed in the choice of the president, there are a lot of women, on his side, we have had over 30 women being elected to parliament from the NDC majority side, in view of the affirmative action posture of the country”.
“We have passed the affirmative action law, and of all these hardworking women, only a few of them, have so far, been given a substantive ministerial appointment, is it the case they are marching them for deputy ministerial appointments?”, Afenyo Markin questioned.
He further added, “That is not right, our women cannot be second-class appointees, Mr Prsident must demonstrate his belief in the capacity capability and the competencies of our women, and he must demonstrate that”.
“The Nana Akufo-Addo government demonstrated that women have equal capacity as men and he demonstrated that, he did that in all his appointments and the records are out there for all to see”, he stated boldly.
