Majority Leader of Parliament, Mahama Ayariga has disclosed that a businessman attempted to mar the ongoing vetting of Ministerial-designates.
According to him, the said businessman tried to pay some money to supposedly ease the approval of a ministerial nominee for a particular sector.
He made this revelation in an interview on Joy News’ PM Express on Tuesday, January 28, 2025.
“I actually met somebody who operates in a sector, and the person said, ‘Oh, our minister is being considered this week, so we want to go and help him.’ And I said, ‘Has the sector minister asked you to come and help him?’ He said, ‘No, no, we just want to come together and help him,’” Mr. Ayariga narrated.
Mahama Ayariga quickly reprimanded the businessman and told him such things were not accepted.
“I told the person, ‘I don’t think there’s a need for you and people in your sector to mobilize money that you are going to help your minister, because we won’t even accept it,’” he said.
He reiterated that the Appointments Committee is a credible body which does not demand any money from nominees for approval.
Mahama Ayariga’s revelations follows allegations made by activist Oliver Barker-Vormawor who claimed someone had directed certain individuals to pay money to the Appointments Committee for parliamentary approval.
