Director of Communications for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Richard Ahiagbah, has blamed the Mahama administration for the killing of eight individuals in Obuasi on Sunday, January 19, 2025.
According to him, the failure of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the Mahama administration to address the actions of party members who, emboldened by their newfound power, have allegedly taken the law into their own hands is the cause of this disaster.
Highlighting the incident as a mark of negligence, he criticized the NDC for not acting decisively to prevent such lawlessness, which he believes directly contributed to the needless killings.
He pointed out that, despite being just 12 days in office, the government’s failure to address these growing concerns has resulted in irreversible tragedy, with no investigation capable of bringing back the lives lost.
Describing the incident as a “Black Sunday” in Ghana under the leadership of President John Dramani Mahama, Ahiagbah extended his condolences to the families, friends, and the larger community of Obuasi and the Ashanti Region, urging the nation to unite in mourning and prayer for justice.
Ahiagbah called for justice for the “Obuasi 8” and urged all Ghanaians to hold the Mahama administration accountable for this preventable tragedy.
