Member of Parliament (MP) for Tano South, Charles Asiedu believes there is no need for the Minority Caucus in parliament to attend the House’s meetings.
According to him, the numbers of the Minority Caucus is insignificant and will not impact any decision of parliament as the Majority Caucus has the numbers to vote and pass bills.
He indicated that the decision of the 4 independent candidates in parliament to join the Majority Caucus also gives them an overwhelming number.
The politician is of the view the government can save money spent on the members of the Minority Caucus and channel those monies to good use if they (Minority Caucus) stay at home, rather than attend parliamentary meetings.
“With the current composition of parliament, I suggest we all come to a consensus and let the Minority Caucus stay home. Then we can give them a third of their salaries to purchase data and watch us on television,” Charles Asiedu said in an interview.
With the four (4) independent candidates now aligned with the the National Democratic Congress (NDC), the party now has the overwhelming majority in Parliament with 187 seats with the New Patriotic Party (NPP) having 88 seats.
The Ablekuma North seat is still outstanding as the Electoral Commission (EC) has been unable to complete collating the results there.
It is however highly likely the NDC will win that seat as well, further boosting their numbers in parliament.
