A construction project underway at the African Union (AU) Village in Cantonments has sparked public outcry, following allegations that the development is taking place on state land.
In a post on X-Spaces, Kevin Taylor, the founder of Loud Media, claimed that the project belongs to Laud Commey, a prominent political figure, but is being fronted by a developer associated with Ridge Condos.
Taylor’s revelations have added fuel to the ongoing national campaign spearheaded by the Operation Recover All Loots task force, led by the Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa.
Operation Recover All Loots is a special initiative aimed at reclaiming state properties and lands allegedly acquired or encroached upon by private individuals under questionable circumstances. The campaign, launched in December 2024, has since uncovered several state assets that were either sold off or developed without proper documentation.
On January 12, 2025, Ablakwa, together with the task force chairman, Samuel Ikudeto Ablakwa, and other team members, including Martin Pebble, embarked on a site inspection tour of disputed state lands and properties across Accra. The visit focused on identifying properties suspected to have been privatized unlawfully.
Taylor’s report points to the AU Village in Cantonments, where a high-profile construction project is ongoing. He alleges that the land belongs to the state and that its development contravenes land-use regulations. According to Taylor, Laud Commey, though not officially associated with the project, is the principal beneficiary, with a private developer serving as his proxy.
The AU Village area, designated for official government purposes, has been at the center of multiple disputes regarding its ownership and use. Residents and public watchdogs have long expressed concerns about the privatization of prime state land in the area.
The Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources has yet to comment on the specific allegations regarding the AU Village project. However, the Operation Recover All Loots task force has promised a comprehensive review of all projects in the vicinity, stating that any encroached lands would be reclaimed for the state.
Kevin Taylor’s exposé has further ignited public debate, with citizens demanding accountability and transparency in the management of state resources. Many have called for strict punitive measures against individuals or groups found guilty of unlawfully acquiring public assets.
The Operation Recover All Loots team is expected to release a detailed report on its findings in the coming weeks. Ablakwa has assured the public that no individual, regardless of their status, will be shielded from accountability.
