Veteran journalist and the Editor-in-Chief of the New Crusading Guide Abdul-Malik Kweku Baako have boldly stated that Kwame Nkrumah does not need a holiday to establish his iconic nature.
According to Kweku Baako, the first president of Ghana is a global icon.
He further noted that the debate about Ghana’s founder is an established fact.
Speaking in the Good Morning Ghana, Kweku Baako stated, “Dates like August 4, September 21st, I have said it many times, when Mills was making September 21st a statutory public holiday not by law through executive instrument I said no”.
“September 21st was a public holiday under Nkrumah from 1958 to 1965 and the coup happened February 1966, when we don’t have a certain consensus, those dates keep changing they never stabilize and the history of Ghana shows that”, he detailed.
Kweku Baako further reiterated that Kwame Nkrumah is the founder of Ghana.
He added, “Kwame is the founder everybody knows but under Nkrumah the 21st September was the founders day, and was celebrated every year. The Mills administration brought it back and Akufo-Addo administration took it away”.
“My view is that Nkrumah does not need a holiday on his birthday to establish his iconic nature, a global icon”, he added.
