Member of Parliament for Adansi Asokwa, Godwin Animli Dorgbadzi Dorani, has revealed that his predecessor, Kobina Tahir Hammond, dismissed his chances in the December 7 parliamentary elections, calling him a “small boy.”
Speaking on Kasapa FM , the National Democratic Congress (NDC) MP noted that KT Hammond underestimated his potential, which motivated him to work even harder to secure victory.
“KT Hammond took me for granted; he thought I was a small boy. He has been in Parliament for a very long time and has amassed much wealth. That is why I thank my constituents for believing in me, trusting me, and giving me this victory.
I didn’t relax – I worked so hard. By God’s grace, everything I did and said was heard by the people, and they gave me this chance,” Dorani said.
Dorani’s hard work paid off as he garnered 14,229 votes to unseat KT Hammond, who received 13,275 votes. The Convention People’s Party (CPP) candidate, Mensah Abraham Justice, came in third with 346 votes.
The win not only ended KT Hammond’s 24-year tenure as MP but also brought new leadership to a constituency that had been a stronghold of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
The Adansi Asokwa MP pledged to honor the trust his constituents have placed in him, promising to bring meaningful change to the constituency.
“I am praying to work very hard not to let my people down. All that I did and said were heard by my people, and they gave me this chance,” he emphasized.
Dorani’s victory has been described as one of the most remarkable outcomes of the 2024 elections, signaling a shift in political representation in Adansi Asokwa.
