President John Dramani Mahama has nominated the Member of Parliament (MP) for Buem constituency, Kofi Adams as the new Minister of Sports and Recreation.
The selection was confirmed following the release of the third batch of Ministerial appointments for Parliamentary approval.
Kofi Adams, who is expected to go through vetting, replaces Mustafa Ussif, who served as Minister of Sports from 2021 under the New Patriotic Party (NPP) led by Nana Akufo-Addo.
His nomination comes after earlier speculation that former Sports and Youth Minister Nii Lante Vanderpuye was the preferred candidate.
Although Vanderpuye had been a strong contender, Mahama has opted for Adams to lead the newly restructured ministry, which now includes Recreation, separate from Youth.
Kofi Adams has served as deputy General Secretary in the past for the National Democratic Congress. In December 2014, he was elected as National Organizer for the party in the National Executive elections.
In the run off to the 2016 elections, he was selected as the campaign coordinator of the NDC’s 15-member national campaign team.
