The Member of Parliament for Asante Akyem North Constituency in the Ashanti Region, Ohene Kwame Frimpong, has announced his decision to join the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Majority caucus in the 9th Parliament.
Speaking to Onua TV, Frimpong stated that his decision was influenced by the developmental needs of his constituents.
“As an independent MP, I will caucus with the NDC because my constituency needs development,” Frimpong said.
Frimpong, who secured his seat as an independent candidate after defeating the incumbent New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament, has become one of the independent MPs aligning with the NDC caucus.
Similarly, Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as A Plus, the MP for Gomoa Central, has declared his intent to caucus with the NDC.
A Plus, who has been openly critical of the NPP’s leadership, described their approach as “not serious,” citing their failure to effectively engage with him after the election.
“The NPP leadership is not a serious one. They don’t know what they’re about,” A Plus stated.
He revealed that the NDC Minority Leader, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, reached out to him the day after the election, expressing interest in working with him.
In contrast, the NPP delayed their engagement, eventually reaching out through Kennedy Agyapong.
“They were arrogant in their approach, negotiating behind the scenes with deals that were not truthful.
When I called them out, they denied it. But that’s exactly what happened,” A Plus explained.
He praised the NDC for recognizing his contributions and making him feel valued.
“The NDC has shown they are serious. They value what I do and who I am. So, you go where you are wanted,” he added.
For development in my constituency, I’ll join the NDC in the majority caucus in parliament – Indep. MP for Asante Akyem North.#OnuaAbatoɔAsoeɛ #OnuaTV pic.twitter.com/Simipli589
