Member of Parliament (MP) for the Effutu Constituency and member of the Appointments Committee, Alexander Afenyo-Markin has threatened to reject the appointment of Member of Parliament (MP) for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa as Minister for Foreign Affairs-Designate.
His threat follows a heated debate in parliament where Okudzeto implied Afenyo-Markin is complicit in corruption, illegality and state capture of the outgone New Patriotic Party (NPP) government.
“Defending corruption and state capture is no different from engaging in corruption, it is called complicit,” Okudzeto told Afenyo-Markin after the latter threatened to expose the former for parading as a saint in the public eye, while being engaged in corrupt practices in the dark of the night.
Afenyo-Markin who took serious offence statement from Okudzeto Ablakwa retorted, “Mr. Chairman, who is complicit? Who is corrupt in this hose. If you dare, we will not approve you.”
President John Dramani Mahama has appointed Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa as Minister for Foreign Affairs-designate awaiting the approval of parliament.
Okudzeto is yet to face the Appointments Committee which has Afenyo-Markin as a ranking member.
Okudzeto will face Parliament’s Appointments Committee on January 30, 2025, and the threats of Afenyo-Markin may either be realized or not.
