Minister-designate for Oti Region, John Kwadwo Gyapong has clapped back at a member of the Appointments Committee who tried to insinuate he was too old to hold the position.
Member of Parliament (MP) of Weija-Gbawe, Jerry Ahmed during the vetting asked Kwadwo Gyapong, “Mr. chairman, observation, 74 years, 10 children, 3 term MP, Regional Chairman-Oti, Regional Chairman-Volta, Constituency Chairman, you don’t think it is time to hand over to any of your children?”
In responding to the question, Kwadwo Gyapong indicated that former-President Akufo-Addo was president of Ghana in his old age, hence it is possible for him also to be a Regional Minister.
“Thank you very much, I am happy for this question. If even an 83 aged person can be a president of this country, I am wondering a 74 aged person (can be regional minister),” he stated.
As a founding member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Kwadwo Gyapong is a poised to ensuring the party “always wins elections.”
“Once I have something to help and to cooperate and to build the capacity of the youth who are party members, so be it,” he added.
The Appointments Committee is currently vetting nominees for Regional Ministers. If they are successful during vetting, these nominees will be sworn into office to start their their work.
