Minister-designate for the Interior, Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak says he will take to his grave the identity of the NPP MP who supported the opposition NDC at the time to vote Alban Bagbin as Speaker of the 8th Parliament.
He made his stance when addressing a question posed to him by Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin when he appeared before the Appointments Committee to be vetted.
The Asawase MP boldly declared that identity of the NPP MP will forever remain a close guarded secret.
When Afenyo-Markin challenged the lawmaker to say he has information about the MP, Muntaka replied: “You don’t know, it’s not true. You can only guess, you can’t say you know.”
“Everybody in this country has done everything humanly possible to know including the security agencies I believe, to know which of the NPP MPs supported us to elect Mr. Speaker.
“I work with people and I have vowed that not even my wife will know this; I will die with it and I meant it,” he said.
The 8th Parliament of Ghana was a hung one as the both the Majority and Minority Caucus had 137 MPs each.
However, during the voting for the Speaker of Parliament, the NDC secured 138 votes to name Alban Bagbin as Speaker. This means an MP from the NPP majority side switched camps to back, but till now, the identity of that MP has remained unknown.
