President Akufo-Addo has boldly stated he is leaving the office of government with the lights on.
According to Akufo-Addo, he inherited a nation plagued by dumsor.
The outgoing Ghana’s President also revealed his government inherited an energy legacy debt of 2.5 billion dollars.
President Akufo-Addo made this known while he was delivering his last State of the Nation address to parliament today January 3, 2024.
Speaking during the State of the Nation address Akufo-Addo stated, “It is worth noting I inherited a nation plagued with dumsor, but I am very happy to say, that I leave office, with the lights on”.
“This achievement did not come, without it challenges, when my administration assumed office, we inherited an energy sector legacy of debts of 2.5 billion USD”, he added.
President Akufo-Addo further stated, “The energy sector recovery program developed by the government and the World Bank project that this debt would balloon to a staggering 12.5 billion USD within 5 years if no decisive action were taken”.
