Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, the Minister-designate for Health has revealed he is determined to investigate ambulance spare parts and maintenance.
Mintah Akandoh asserted that the rate of vehicle deterioration does not justify such a maintenance agreement worth $77 million over five years.
Appearing for his vetting on Friday, January 31, 2025, Mr Akandoh stated, “For the spare parts and the contract with the company maintaining Ghana’s ambulances, I have received a briefing on the issue. If approved by the committee, I am determined to investigate this matter thoroughly,”
“This company was contracted to purchase 307 ambulances for $41 million. However, I have seen a contract showing that the ministry later signed a maintenance agreement worth $77 million over five years. The rate of vehicle deterioration does not justify such an amount. I intend to launch an investigation into this arrangement“, he added.
Meanwhile, the three persons knee-deep in the US$ 108 million ambulance scandal under the former Akufo-Addo government have reportedly fled Ghana.
The three, Stephen Okereke Elendu Kalu Okoro, Frank Agyekum Boateng and Vivian Oppong Kyekyeku are said to have fled to the UK and USA respectively.
According to Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Member of Parliament for North Tongu, the trio fled the country days ahead of the December 7, 2024 polls as they feared they might be unable to do so and face justice under the new National Democratic Congress (NDC) government.
