The John Mahama government has set up a 12-member committee to avert looming power crisis in the country.
The committee is expected to develop a road map to address both financial and technical issues.
John Jinapor is Chairman of the Committee set up by the government.
The Special Aide to the President Felix Kwakye Ofosu, speaking to the media stated, “Government has been briefed. It’s pretty urgent. In order to address the situation, a technical committee has been set up with representatives from all the key players in the management of Ghana’s energy sector”.
“They have up until the close of day today to put before the government the roadmap on what exactly needs to be done and how it can be done. So, you can be rest assured that government is taking the matter seriously and will do what has to be done in order to avert any difficulty for the people of Ghana”, he revealed.
Meanwhile, the John Mahama government will require a total of $89.90 million to procure liquid fuel in the absence of natural gas according to GRIDCo report to avert the looming power crisis.
It has been revealed that the West Africa Gas Pipeline Company (WAPco), which supplies natural gas to Ghana, plans to undergo major maintenance work, known as pigging and will be unable to supply gas to Ghana for nearly one month.
Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) in a statement issued revealed maintenance of the gas pipelines from Nigeria to Ghana by WAGP was initially set to take place in October 2024 but the Akufo-Addo government postponed the maintenance to January 2025.
