The Office of the President has released the official portrait of President John Dramani Mahama.
According to the Office of the President, the government has not and will not contract any company to produce John Mahama’s framed pictures.
Their statement added the portrait of Mahama will be the official picture to be used in Ministries, Departments, and State Agencies.
In the statement signed by the president spokesperson Felix Kwakye Ofosu stated, “Government HAS NOT AND WILL NOT contract any company or individual to produce framed pictures of the official portrait in bulk for distribution”.
The statement further detailed, “The portrait captures the essence of President Mahama’s leadership and commitment to the people of Ghana. It will serve as a symbol of national pride and unity, reflecting the values and aspirations of our great nation”.
Meanwhile, it has been alleged that former President Akufo-Addo in 2017, reportedly spent GHS 5.2M to print President Akufo-Addo’s official portraits for public offices.
Some Ghanaians have also questioned the essence of having the Presidents portraits in offices.
However, according to a military person the Presidential portraits in offices symbolize leadership, authority, and unity. They remind people of national identity, respect for the presidency, and the continuity of government. It is a tradition seen in many countries to honor the role of the head of state.
