Four Independent Members of Parliament (MPs), have joined the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Parliament.
The Majority Leader, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson made this announcement on the floor of parliament.
The four MPs to align with the NDC are; Dr. Ohene Kwame Frimpong of Asante Akim North, Nandaya Yaw Stanley of Wulensi, Kwame Asare Obeng, commonly known as Kwame A Plus of Gomoa Central, and Worlasi Kpeli for Afram Plains North.
Dr. Ato Forson explained that while all four MPs have confirmed their intention to join the NDC, only Kwame Asare Obeng (A Plus), the MP for Gomoa Central, has officially communicated his decision to the Majority Caucus.
He indicated that the other three MPs have been instructed to submit formal notifications to both the Majority Caucus and the Speaker for validation.
“Currently, we have received letters from all four of them. So, Mr. Speaker, we’ll wait for them to officially write to you.”
“Mr. Speaker, my attention [has been drawn to the fact] that so far, the MP for Gomoa Central has written to us, but the rest are yet to write officially to confirm their positions,” he stated in parliament on Wednesday, January 8, 2025.
Since the four independent MPs do not number up to seven, they are not in a position to come together to become a third force in the House.
Therefore, each of them is required to officially write individually to the Speaker to inform him of their decision to sit with one faction of the party per the rules of the House.
