Dr Jonathan Asante, a Political Science lecturer at the University of Cape Coast has stated that the NPP flagbearer for the 2024 elections contributed to about 40% of his defeat.
He noted that the arrogance appointees of the Akufo-Addo government displayed also contributed to the NPP’s defeat.
According to the Political Science lecturer, the NPP neglected the party structures which contributed to their defeat.
He asserted that former President Akufo-Addo contributed about 60% to the defeat while, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s contributed to 40 percent of his defeat while the arrogance of appointees of the government was also a factor.
Dr Asante, speaking to Citi News stated, “What happened to them is like what is in Jeremiah, where it is said that the fathers have eaten sour grapes and the children’s teeth are set on edge”.
“I think Mr Akufo-Addo contributed about 60 percent of Dr Bawumia’s defeat, and Dr Bawumia himself contributed about 40 percent”, he detailed.
Dr Jonathan Asante further revealed, “Now that being said, the arrogance that the appointees of government displayed, all these things contributed as intangibles that led to that mass opposition to the renewal of their mandate in the 2024 elections”.
“So the goodwill is not there. The structures are weak in the sense that it was more or less like a one-man show”, he added.
The Political Science lecturer reiterated the NDC’s fortunes in 2028 depend on how well John Mahama will do in government.
