President John Dramani Mahama has assured Ghanaians that they will not suffer power fluctuations under under his leadership.
Speaking at the 92nd Annual Jalsa (Convention) of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission at Pomadze in the Central Region on Thursday, January 9, 2024, President Mahama admitted his administration has met with some challenges in the power sector, but expressed optimism over his administration resolving them.
The President revealed that a postponed shutdown of the West African Gas Pipeline has contributed to the current energy challenges.
“A planned shutdown of the West African gas pipeline was supposed to take place in October last year but, at the intervention of this government, it was postponed,” he explained.
President Mahama reassured attendees of his government’s commitment to resolving the crisis. ” So, there is the threat of power outages, but my brothers and sisters don’t despair. Like I said you elected us to solve the problems and not shift blame or to on anyone else or burden you with these issues.”
President Mahama disclosed that he called a meeting yesterday, Wednesday, January 8, 2025 with all stakeholders in the electricity value chain.
“They have been sitting since yesterday to come out with preventive solutions so that we are able to keep the lights on. So, I can assure you we will make sure the lights stay on and we do not have dumsor as you popularly call it.”
