A disturbing video of students commuting in wooden canoe boat surfaces has on social media.
According to the information gathered these students are from the Odomankoma M.A Primary School located in the Krachi West municipality of the Oti region.
The information suggests the students commute 2 kilometres in a wooden canoe without safety gear which has sparked urgent concerns of their safety.
In a self-recorded video, a narrator stated, “We have two groups, of our learners this one is made up of females, you can see that the females are the ones paddling the canoe to school, and the risk involved is very high”.
“When the lake overflows its banks, it takes about 2 kilometres for them to cross almost about 20 to 40 minutes and when it rains the distance reduces to a kilometre and they cross within 25 to 30 minutes so we really need help so this video is evidence, you can see how expanded the river is”.
He further added that some students do not come to school because they don’t have any means of crossing when the canoe is not available to them.
He called on Ghanaians and the government to come to the aid of these children to achieve their future dreams.
