Former Ghana international Asamoah Gyan says he had no rivalry with any player while playing for the Black Stars.
According to him, the perceived rivalry between him and Dede Ayew was because the latter was being “brainwashed” by some individuals in the football fraternity for their own good.
He made this revelation during an Instagram live session on Thursday, January 2, 2025.
Speculations about tension between the two players emerged during their time with the Black Stars, with reports suggesting they had a strained relationship.
The rumors worsened when Ayew was named Black Stars captain with Asamoah Gyan being tagged general captain prior to the latter’s retirement.
“Andre is a good person. He genuinely cares for me, but he has been brainwashed because it benefits certain people. That’s what created the so-called rivalry. I am not in competition with anyone,” Asamoah Gyan said.
Asamoah Gyan’s comments now contrast earlier statements where he described Dede Ayew as a teammate and not a friend during an interview when these rivalry claims emerged.
