A Ghanaian X user identified as Clinton says history will be made in Ghana as citizens will beat up their fellow citizens for embarking on a protest.
His comments come on the back of statement from the Institute of Community Sustainability which has opposed President John Dramani Mahama’s promise to abolish betting tax.
According to the institute, they will embark on a demonstration should the government proceed to abolish the tax.
“They need sustainable job opportunities and support to thrive. We will take to the streets to demonstrate our opposition to the abolition of betting tax if necessary. We call on President Mahama to prioritize the well-being and future of Ghana’s youth,” portions of their statement read.
Reacting to the threat, @LilMoGh “This could be the first time Citizens will beat their fellow citizens for protesting.”
President John Dramani Mahama during his campaign for the presidency in 2024, he pledged to abolish the 10 percent betting tax introduced by the erstwhile Akufo-Addo government.
After winning the elections, Finance Minister nominated by President Mahama, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, vowed to abolish the betting tax and the E-levy in his first budget when he’s approved.
“I insist that the betting tax must be abolished, and as Finance Minister, I will abolish it in my first budget because it has failed,” Dr Forson declared.
