The newly unveiled bust of Commissioner of Police (COP) Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo-Danquah, Executive Director of the Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO), has been vandalized, sparking public outrage.
The bust, which was revealed on October 18, 2024, by EOCO staff to honor her leadership, stood within the organization’s premises in the “Obaatanpa Tiwaa Gardens.”
Reports indicate that the act of vandalism took place in broad daylight, raising concerns about the security at the site.
The bust was a symbol of COP Addo-Danquah’s transformative leadership and contributions to the fight against organized and economic crime in Ghana.
However, its installation had previously stirred debate, with critics questioning the appropriateness of such tributes within public institutions.
The vandalism has intensified these discussions, with some viewing the act as a reflection of divided public opinion on the honor.
Others, however, have condemned the act as a disgraceful assault on a symbol of dedication and service.
It was commissioned by EOCO staff to celebrate their executive director, with the surrounding space named “Obatanpa Tiwaa Gardens” in her honor.
EOCO has yet to release an official statement on the incident or confirm whether investigations are underway to identify the perpetrators.
COP Addo-Danquah has not publicly commented on the matter, leaving many to speculate on the broader implications of this act.
