Vice President at IMANI, Bright Simmons has questioned the principle behind the Majority Leader of Parliament’s demand for Emeafa Hardcastle to apologise to Minority Chief Whip, Frank Annoh-Dompreh (MP).
Majority Leader, Mahama Ayariga condemned the actions of Ag. Chief Executive Officer of the Petroluem Commission, Emeafa Hardcastle, during the sitting of the Appointments Committee on Tuesday, January 28, 2025.
Speaking in parliament, he appealed to Annoh-Dompreh against dragging her to the Privileges Committee to answer for her actions, but rather asked him to seek a reconciliatory approach to the matter with Emeafa offering a public apology to him.
“We are appealing to the Speaker to give us an opportunity to engage her and to request her to apologise to the Minority Chief Whip,” he stated.
Bright Simmons, who seems to be lost in this brouhaha, asked if Emeafa Hardcastle’s comment is an offence to parliament.
“Is the principle at play here that anyone who describes a member of parliament as “silly” offends parliament,” he wrote on his X page with the prefix asking for education.
He further sought to know if one who supposedly commits that offence can be convicted using “parliament’s own contempt powers.”
