Ghanaian journalist, Bridget Otoo has taken on the Ghana Police Service was making a false and unfair allegation against one Karen Baaba Sam who had suffered years of abuse at the hands of her partner, Kwabena Adjei.
Karen Baaba Sam has been declared wanted by the Criminal Investigation Department for a case of unlawful removal.
Karen has been in a legal battle over custody of her daughter with the child’s father, Kwabena Adjei.
According to the CID, her warrant came into full effect after she disregarded the order of the family tribunal to hand over the child to her father.
Facts of the case before the Police is that Kwabena Adjei and Karen Baaba Sam have been in a relationship since April 3, 2017 until the birth of their daughter. Kwabena Adjei who is the applicant claims Karen Baaba Sam had been engaged in an amorous relationship and also smoked undisclosed substances in the full glare of their daughter.
Kwabena Adjei claims after confronting Baaba about these issues, she packed her belongings, leaving the house and abandoning her daughter.
However, Karen Baaba Sam also gives different accounts of the story, revealing that Kwabena Adjei is the one who has forcibly taken their daughter from her.
She revealed she had suffered series of abuse and infidelity at the hands of Kwabena Adjei and decided to leave him after her reports of abuse to the Police were futile.
“What you see and read about is a man of power, influence, and money who can commandeer members of the Ghana Police Service to raid my house and my friend’s house in the name of enforcing a bogus court order to retrieve our child, whom I have cared for since birth. What you see and read about is Kwadwo Adjei—simply, an abuser.”
“I have reached out to the relevant institutions for help, but for anyone in my situation, the wheels of justice appear almost motionless. For an ordinary woman and mother like me, I am desperate. I feel extremely threatened and fear for my life,” she lamented in an interview with Asaase Radio.
According to her, Kwabena Adjei is the one trying to snatch their daughter and flee from Ghana with her, as he has attempted previously.
Bridget Otoo who has been angered by the treatment suffered by Karen Baaba Sam took to her X page to vent at the Police and called upon them to do the needful.
She claimed Kwabena Adjei belonged to “a gang/Mafia in East legon and give you @GhPoliceService bread crumbs (bribes) you are losing sight of who the real victim is! Protect the woman and put that mafia behind bars!!”
For now, both parties are making series of allegations against each other with Ghanaians confused about who is telling the truth and who is lying.
