A Nissan Patrol belonging to the Bekwai Municipal Assembly has been allegedly auctioned for a measly Ghc3,200.
According to reports, the car which is still unregistered and in pristine condition had been sent to a DVLA office to be quickly registered after the auction.
In a video which has surfaced on X, a man at the DVLA office can be heard saying, “this is a government car from the Bekwai Municipal Assembly, a Nissan Patrol. I hear they have auctioned it for only Ghc3,200. This is too terrible.”
He bemoaned the wickedness of the nation’s leaders who are quick to capture state property at the expense of the tax payer for peanuts or no cost at all.
The concerned citizen questioned the sale of the Nissan Patrol 4wheeled drive for such a cheap amount, adding that these actions of government officials only hinder the nation’s development.
“This is an Assembly car which has been brought to be licensed because it has been auctioned to them at Ghc3,200. Is this car sold for Ghc3,200? How much do motorbikes and bicycles even cost,” he expressed sadly.
The Office of the President reiterated its directive prohibiting outgoing Ministers, Deputy Ministers, Regional Ministers, and other political appointees from acquiring official government vehicles as the administration concludes its term in office.
n a statement signed by the Director of Communications, Eugene Arhin, the directive emphasizes that no government vehicles will be made available for acquisition by appointees, marking a continuation of the policy first introduced at the end of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s first term in 2020.
The statement highlighted President Akufo-Addo’s commitment to accountability and responsible management of state resources, stressing that the longstanding convention of allowing appointees to acquire one official saloon vehicle through valuation by the State Transport Company Ltd. will not apply under the current administration.
However, the actions of the Bekwai Municipal Assembly contravene the directive of the outgoing Akufo-Addo led administration.
